Selectively in Love-The Choleric

choleric in affection

As it has been discussed already, the Choleric doesn’t approach anything in half measures!  One of the greatest traits of this temperament is the desire the express a great deal of love and affection. They tend to approach only a select group of people for deep relationships. When they are fully invested in a relationship, they are open, receptive, optimistic and outgoing. They are very demonstrative in shows of affection both physically and in gift-giving gestures.  After reading this description it certainly sounds like the choleric would be quite a catch!  However, just like every other temperament they do have their weaknesses.

A Choleric appears to want deep, personal relationships when in reality, they tend to back off. The reason for this is simply because while they like to show their love, they also want to receive it on their terms. They will reject becoming engaged fully in a relationship if their terms aren’t met. In most cases their standards are very stringent, and they raise the bar pretty high. It’s sometimes difficult for them to express strong emotions other than anger. To them the gestures of compassion, tenderness, and warmth are a waste of time.

The good news is that when a Choleric enters into the spiritual direction phase of life coaching, amazing things begin to happen. They begin to define their relationship with God in terms of not only giving love, but receiving unconditional love. This transfers over into their personal relationships helping them gain the insight that love isn’t something that needs to be manipulated, just experienced.

Maybe some of this rings true for you or perhaps your significant other. To discover if you are a Choleric in affection, contact us to make arrangements to take the APS Temperament Analysis.
