Starving Inside? Feed the Spirit

How many times have you found yourself feeling alone or rejected? Perhaps you’ve experienced periods of feeling worthless or insignificant. Maybe you’re going through a number of those days strung together simply feeling “out of sorts”. When you end up in any of these places, what’s your first thought?  My first thought is, “How the heck did I get here?” to be followed by, ” How can I turn this thing around?”  At this point it’s usually time for me to do some soul-searching and inner reflection, all a product of being HONEST with myself.  In actuality, my first thought should be to check my God Connection making sure it’s plugged in properly! HONESTY is the key to deeper understanding by recreating the” mental bread crumb trail” of the things I’ve done and those I’ve failed to do. The second phase is creating a modification plan with realistic and attainable goals. The main objective should be enhancing the spiritual life and feeding the inner man, thus setting all the other goals into motion. Here are …

Living in the Moment

Oh how we love our vacations. We look forward to them with so much anticipation and expectation. It’s relatively easy for us to live in the moment at most of our destination choices. That’s because we usually schedule it around doing the things we love to do…beach side, golf, dining, shopping, and sightseeing. We take photos and purchase souvenirs to remember at a later time. We simply don’t want out getaway to end! Then we start having those thoughts toward when we will have to go back to reality. The more obsessive compulsive among us start preparing for the return home days before, at least mentally. We’ve already checked out so to speak! Sometimes we experience each day by counting the hours until its 5:00 o’clock. We begin our Monday, trying to make it to “hump day” Wednesday, and  trying to survive until the weekend comes. The dreaded Monday rolls around and the process begins again. In between there are the equivalent of the beautiful sunsets, sights, and treasures we have during our times …

Modern Idols

We’ve all heard about the worship of idols as it relates to what we think of as pagan rituals. It makes us think of ancient times when people were a little less sophisticated than we are today. The reality is that “idol worship” is alive and well in the year 2015. Anything that takes hold of us in such as way as to separate us from placing God front and center serves as an idol. For some it’s the pursuit of wealth beyond what we need and the workaholic mentality that it takes to attain and maintain that status. For others it’s celebrities and athletes that are raised to an unrealistic level of admiration and obsession. There are those trapped in addictions it takes the form of alcohol, drugs, gambling, food and sex. Some people, especially our youth, devote inordinate amounts of time to social media, basing their identity and value on how many likes they get on Facebook or Instagram. In any event the modern day idols are an attempt to fill …

Keeping a Prayer Journal

A Prayer Journal serves as love letters to God. It sums our thanks and praise for the things we might otherwise take for granted. It’s also an opportunity for us to explore scripture related to our thoughts and concerns. Putting pen to paper allows us to recall and express the things we tend to forget about during the course of our day. It also an opportunity to us to place our fears, concerns, trials and tribulations before the Lord. As we look back we begin to see how He helped us to overcome and triumph. It also empowers us to recognize that although our prayers might not have been answered in the way we wanted, He has our best interest at heart. He has a plan and we have to trust in it with faith and hope. This is a simple plan for setting up your personal prayer journal: List the people, and situations you are offering up in prayer. Include yourself in terms of how your prayers will make you of use to …
