Raising Critical Thinkers, Not Critical People

children thoughts

The title sounds like common sense, right?  All of us want our offspring to be able to think on their own.  But the reality is that children will fall into three general categories that will likely follow them into adulthood. As parents our ultimate goal is to raise our children to become valuable, and contributing members of society. Part of this involves encouraging them to be critical thinkers and not critical people. The ground is set in early childhood and becomes fully developed during adolescence. As always, we usually see the fruits of our labors based on what we model for them.

In our series to follow we will discuss the three approaches children have in their thought processes and decision making. I’ve given them cute little names for demonstration purposes!
